In the stampede to set up new independent record companies to exploit the emerging black music market, soon to be rechristened Rhythm & Blues, it's interesting that female blues singers suffered badly. While Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf or John Lee Hooker all enjoyed a boom in popularity and record sales, there were no such rewards for most of the women. This unique 25 track collection from highlights some of the best, mostly obscure, and now forgotten female talent from the period. It will delight R&B lovers and more traditional blues fans alike, whilst uncovering a largely unexplored area of rhythm & blues, and re-introducing great forgotten artists like Sandra Grimes, Rose Johnson, Gloria Shannon and Rose Nelson among others.
