Every now and then I sit in my comfort zone and imagine I know what is out there in our music scene and what I like.
However, I am often shaken from my smug little existence and listening to this CD is one of those times.
In all honesty I hadn’t heard of Joakim Tinderholt & His Band until I received this CD.
How do I sum this up? Well let’s try.
From the very first few notes drifting out of my speakers I was hooked. I mean really hooked.
Quite often when I receive a CD it will never see the light of day again and will live out it’s existence gathering dust on a shelf.
This is one of those however, that will be played until I am sure my neighbours can sing along with all the vocal tracks.
Joakim Tinderholt and his band have been doing the rounds out of Oslo, Norway, across Scandinavia and deep into Eastern Europe since 2005.
They seem to have concentrated on the blues circuit which may be the reason they have flown below the “Rockin’ Radar”.
Surprising really as their sound is massively influenced by mid 20th century Rock 'n' Roll and Rhythm & Blues.
You can hear Little Richard, Ike Turner and Chuck Berry in their sound.
From the world of the blues there is the sound of Bo Diddley and Otis Rush.
Maybe throw in some B B King for good measure.
The CD features eleven tracks with five covers slipped in.
The nice thing is that even though there are some obvious covers that everyone knows such as “It’s Your Voodoo Working”, the whole CD melds together and works as a package.
That is saying a lot about their own material.
So what will this CD actually sound like when you press play?
Quite simply if you like J D McPherson you will like this.
It has that smooth quality production that makes you want to check the local press to see if they are coming to your hometown.
In fact there is no reason for this ensemble not to be as equally successful.
