Annisteen Allen was strangely undervalued despite the fact she could hold her own at any time with the major femme stars of the day like Ruth Brown and LaVern Baker. Her strong vocals have long been popular with blues collectors and rock 'n' roll fans alike and she was indeed one of the greatest vocalists of the era.
Fujiama Mama is a 29 track collection, the first CD anthology to concentrate solely on her solo records.
It includes her biggest hit Baby I'm Doing It which was an answer disc to Baby Don't Do It by The '5' Royales and of course her most famous song, the original Fujiyama Mama which was covered by Wanda Jackson.

Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly and many of the other Rock 'n' Roll greats have all had their recording outtakes and alternative versions of their back catalogue released for their fans’ listening pleasure.  Now at last, it’s Ricky Nelson’s turn, so this four-disc box set is a very welcome release not only for fans of Ricky Nelson, but also the thousands of rockabilly aficionados around the world.  Every one of the 127 tracks included here in the set has been digitally mastered from the original Verve and Imperial Records studio tapes to give the listener superb quality sound.
It makes fascinating listening to hear Ricky making a few attempts before getting it right.
Also, we hear studio chat from the Jordanaires, producer Jimmie Haskell, Ricky’s father Ozzie Nelson and, of course Ricky himself, all the complete Verve sessions, and not forgetting the many previously unreleased alternative versions included here from the Imperial years, along with instrumental attempts of some Ricky's best known songs and also new stereo versions, all of them sounding truly superb.
The accompanying 16 page booklet includes detailed liner notes and lots of photos.

By the age of 20, Sonny Fisher was forming his first Country band featuring steel, fiddle, bass and drums
Part of this line up became the solid core of his subsequent band the Rocking Boys.  His musical direction was cemented when he saw Elvis Presley perform in Houston in November 1954.  Out went the fiddle and steel and the Rocking Boys became the tight rockabilly band that created some of the most authentic rockabilly recordings in musical history.
By January the following year, Fisher and his boys were recording a session of ‘Hillbilly Cat’ styled songs at a self-financed session at Bill Quinn’s Goldstar studio in Houston.  Quinn alerted Jack Starnes, one of the owners of the local Texas label Starday Records to the recording, and after hearing them Starday signed Fisher to a one year recording contract.
The four songs from that session became the first two Starday singles and helped to shape the genre.
March 1955 saw their debut release, Rockin' Daddy backed with Hold Me Baby.
Both of these and all the other Starday releases were written by Fisher, and Rockin’ Daddy became a regional hit but didn’t gain wider success.
The second release a couple of months later was Sneaky Pete backed Hey Mama.  These more up-tempo tracks feature blistering guitar work and assured vocals from Fisher.
Somewhere around this time, Elvis saw the band and was so impressed with the extra edge gained by the drums that he borrowed Newsome for a few dates and subsequently installed DJ Fontana as his permanent stick wielding sideman.
Those first two singles didn’t make much of an impact but created enough interest for the boys to head back to the studio for another session.  The next Starday single was released in September 1955 and featured Rockin’ and a Rollin’ on the A side coupled with I Can’t Lose.
June of 1956 saw his final Starday release, Pink and Black backed with Little Red Wagon.
Pink and Black is classic jet propelled Rockabilly whilst the flip side is out of character with the other Starday sides, having a distinctive western flavour.
