His latest release sees his annual limited edition vinyl Halloween singles collected together for an album release, with a couple of new creepy compositions thrown in too. Fenech has three albums in our top ten, with the 2-LPs-on-1-CD release from his surf-instrumental project The Surfin' Dead selling well, as is The Meteors second an all-instrumental set When Guitars Attack.
Elvis Presley Posters is the debut album from The Blackjacks, one of the most exciting new talents on the ‘roots’ music scene today. If you have caught these lads live, then you’ll know exactly why they’re causing such a stir.
They have previously released a 4-track EP called One After 909 and a follow up vinyl single Burn Your Playhouse Down - both of which received fantastic reviews in the music press. The title is a clever, witty song which has been called “Is this the best Elvis-themed song since Kirsty MacColl" by BBC London's Ian Wade.
The Blackjacks mix together Rockabilly, Skiffle, Rock 'n' Roll and Country to create a style that is both authentic and original enough for British Rock 'n' Roll legend Marty Wilde to say of them; “They sound like the bands did in the old days. The energy of the band resonates through the tracks.”
Neo-rockabilly legend James G. Creighton of the Shakin’ Pyramids guests on three tracks, laying down some mean guitar licks and contributing his own composition Jake The Snake to the track list.
The Bobbettes from Manhattan were still schoolgirls when they cut the self-penned million-selling Mr. Lee in 1957. It became the first record by an all-girl vocal group to become a Top 10 singles chart hit and to also top the US R&B charts. After struggling with to repeat chart success with their follow-ups, they finally scored with the controversial I Shot Mr. Lee three years later, and notched up further hits with Have Mercy Baby, Dance With Me Georgie, Mr Johnny Q and I Don’t Like It Like That.
Between 1957 and 1962 the Bobettes recorded prolifically for eight different record labels. We Shot Mr Lee collection gathers thirty of their finest original recordings, plus bonus track Loop De Loop - a million seller for Johnny Thurder on which The Bobbette feature as backing singers.
Rock 'n' Roll - Rockabilly - Psychobilly chart October 2019
The Surfin' Dead is a hard edged instrumental surf band, led by the guitar of P Paul Fenech, founder of psychobilly genre legends The Meteors. Instrumentals have always played a part in The Meteors repertoire, and the band has released two all-instrumental collections - volumes one and two of Mental Instrumentals. Just as The Legendary Raw Deal is an outlet for Fenech's rockabilly side, The Surfin' Dead allows him to explore the instrumental surf genre.
The two Surfin' Dead albums Powertwang (1996) and Dead-A-Rama (2019) have been reissued as a double CD set, with Dead-A-Rama only previously having been available as a vinyl release. The albums will appeal to fans of The Meteors as the performances are delivered with the attitude of all of Fenech's work, but the recordings stay true enough to the traditional surf style to also win the approval of instrumental surf and rock 'n' fans in general.
Christmas is coming, which always sees a few seasonal releases, and this year The Ultimate Rockin' Christmas Collection is a belter with two discs crammed full of seasonal sizzlers from some top rockin' scene names, all recorded by Alan Wilson at his prolific Western Star Studio. In 2013 she toured Sweden and made such a strong connection with the Swedish band backing her up that she decided to start recording her new album with them. She subsequently decided to name this new constellation Marti Brom & Her Rancho Notorious to underline that this is a new thing she’s taking to town. Among the guest musicians featured on Midnight Bus are Rosie Flores, Chris Ruest and Billy Bremner.

The seventh album from French trio The Lucky Devils, marking 20 years of hard rockin' psychobilly!
The Hyperjax have been dishing out their explosive brand of Punk Rockabilly mayhem since they were formed in North West Engand in the Summer of 1996.
Originally a "rockin' scene" trio of Sam Woods on guitar and vocals, double bassist Bob Corner and drummer Martin Cox, The Hyperjax found that they had a shared interest in psychobilly, and were soon no longer a comfortable fit in the rockin' clubs.
They began to develop their own material and sound, and were welcomed by the Psychobilly scene, and found soon found themselves sharing a stage with the likes of The Nekromantix, Batmobile and The Quakes in the USA at the New Jersey Big Rumble Weekender - before they had even released an album!
By 2001 the band was playing around mainland Europe as well as up and down the UK, gaining momentum with the release of their debut album "Generation X-Rated".
Since then the band has toured hard, with several line-up changes, and a handful of fine albums. 2019 sees them sounding stronger than ever, with a solid line-up of Dan Woods on upright bass and Neil Holden on drums - of course still fronted by Sam Woods on guitar and vocals. "Bringing The Bad Back Home" is their fifth album and sees them deliver their strongest material to date.
John Barry is chiefly remembered for his memorable movie themes, but before his composing successes he fronted the UK's finest Rock and Roll band, The John Barry Seven.
Apart from Barry (on trumpet) their most celebrated member was legendary guitarist Vick Flick, whose elegant twanging graces almost all of these recordings.
This 36 track collection presents the very best of the John Barry Seven's recordings for EMI's Parlophone and Columbia labels between 1957 and 1962.
In 1960 alone The John Barry Seven scored no less than six chart hit singles.
This set includes the hits "Hit and Miss" (#10 1960), "Beat For Beatniks" (#40 1960), "Never Let Go" (#49 1960), "Blueberry Hill" (#34 1960), "Walk Don't Run" (#11 1960), "Black Stockings" (#27 1960), "The Magnificent Seven" (#45 1961), "Cutty Sark" (#35 1962) and the career-defining "James Bond Theme" (#13 1962).
Also included are a couple of fearsome rarities, "Saturday's Child" from a Saturday Club LP, and "Rocco's Theme" which was released under the pseudonym Michael Angelo & His Orchestra.

Instrumental recordings were always during the 1950s Rock 'n' Roll years, perhaps peaking the following decade with the Surf boom.
The Meteors found that surf and rock 'n' roll instrumentals perfectly mutated into the psychobilly style that they developed in the early 1980s.
They often opened live shows with the surf classic "Wipe Out" and have featured other vintage instros in their set over the years, as well as recording many original psychobilly instrumental stompers over their 40 year career.
"When Guitars Attack - Mental Instrumental #2" is the second all-instrumental Meteors collection, although founder member and guitar slinger P Paul Fenech has delivered two more sets with his Psycho-Surf side-project The Surfin' Dead.
Here is a lethal overdose of Fenech's spine-bending Psychobilly guitar backed by The Meteors' pulsating Voodoo-Billy beat with 16 pure psychobilly instrumental stompers.
"Surfin' Bird - The Very Best of The Trashmen", released on both CD and vinyl, features the classic title track and includes all of the tracks from their 1964 debut album, along with their other finest moments.
The ostentatiously self-proclaimed "Surfin' sound of the mid-west" the Trashmen shot back into public consciousness when the single "Surfin' Bird" narrowly missed the number one slot in the UK singles chart in 2010 after a massively successful online movement which arose from the use of the song in an episode of "Family Guy".
"Surfin' Bird" has also been recorded by numerous artists including The Ramones and The Cramps, as well as being used in several movies and television shows.
Proving that The Trashmen were so much more than a one-hit act, this collection features an ace cover of Dick Dale's "Misirlou", a cool selection of well-executed surf instrumentals, surf-inflected covers of "It's So Easy" and "Money", and several other surf and hot-rod greats.
Good Rockin’ Tonight have long been established as one of the top names on the UK Rock 'n' Roll scene.
Fronted by the dynamic Mark Keeley, they have built up a strong reputation which includes national TV appearances and 16 CD releases to date.
The classy four-piece group also features John O’Malley who is widely regarded as one of the finest rock 'n' roll and rockabilly guitarists around today, Kurt Simms on double bass and Daz Leggatt on drums - making up a versatile band that mixes classic style rock ‘n’ roll together with rockabilly and Doo Wop vocal harmonies.
They deliver a great 17 track selection of rockin' cover songs and original compositions on their latest album How Beautiful Was That!

25: Tommy Roe : Shelia / Sheila - The Early Years
His complete recordings 1960-62, plus his two earlier 45s recorded as a 17-year old with some tracks almost impossible to find elsewhere on CD.
Ray Smith's early Sun recordings such as "Right Behind You Baby", "You Made A Hit" and "Rockin' Bandit" may be regarded as genre classics, but they failed to chart and it wasn't until Ray switched labels to Judd Records that he scored his big hit record with "Rockin' Little Angel". The follow-up single "Put Your Arms Around Me Honey" however was only a minor hit, and Ray released a further couple of 45s on Judd, along with the album "Travellin' With Ray". 1961 saw him move briefly to Infinty Records before switching back to the Sun label the following year where two more singles were released.
The CD release of "Travelin' With Ray" is packed out with a mass of bonus cuts, resulting in a magnificent 32 track release.
As the rockabilly revival began to gather momentum in the late 1970s, forgotten '50s rockers were rediscovered and Ray began to play shows in Europe, one of which was recorded and released on the Dutch label Rockhouse Records. Ray Smith committed suicide in November 1979 aged 45, just before the resurgence of the rockabilly genre reached it's peak.
"Rock 'n' Roll Ruby" is a collector's edition CD which gathers together all of the sensational singles Johnny Carroll cut at the peak of his career for different labels such as Decca, Warner Bros, Duchess, and Sun Records' subsidiary label Phillips International. An exciting singer and a talented songwriter, Johnny was one of those great rockabilly pioneers who never achieved the success and recognition he deserved. Carroll shared band members with his friend Gene Vincent, and learned guitar, or at least was on some level mentored by Elvis Presley's legendary sideman Scotty Moore. Highlights on "Rock 'n' Roll Ruby" include explosive tracks like "Crazy Crazy Lovin'", "Hot Rock", "Wild Wild Women" and many others.
In addition, the four songs that Johnny performed in the 1957 Rock 'n' Roll movie "Rock Baby Rock It" have been included as bonus tracks.
"Rockin' Mo" by Johnny Earl is superb rock 'n' roll album from one of the genre's best current singers - backed by some of the rockin' scene's finest musicians. There's a diverse selection of rockin' styles, switching from rock 'n' roll to rockin' rhythm & blues to rockabilly, along with other variations too. There's lots of original material - the self-penned songs are great and the covers are well chosen and perfectly performed. Johnny's great vocals are supported by a strong cast of musicians including John O'Malley (guitar, bass, drums) along with Jim Hammond (piano), Pete Cook (saxophone) and Steve Lockwood (harmonica).

One of the first generation of British rock’n’roll stars, Marty Wilde celebrates his 80th birthday in 2019 with a UK tour and a very personal quartet of discs from across a musical career which spans over six decades. During the late 1950s, Marty was one of the biggest UK rock 'n' roll stars, with a string of Top 10 hits on Philips Records, on which he was often backed by The Wildcats: Endless Sleep (No.4), Donna (No.3), A Teenager In Love (No.2), Sea Of Love (No.3) and Bad Boy (No.7). As the Sixties dawned, Marty continued to enjoy chart success while evolving his sound: Johnny Rocco (No.30), The Fight (No.47), Little Girl (No.16), Rubber Ball (No.9), Hide and Seek (No.47), Tomorrow’s Clown (No.33), Jezebel (No.19) and Ever Since You Said Goodbye (No.31).
In the mid-60s, he also recorded as a trio The Wilde Three with wife Joyce (ex-Vernons Girls) and Justin Hayward. In the late 1960s Marty became a hit songwriter for other artists, while his own performing career continued at pace throughout the 1970s. "Marty ~ A Lifetime In Music" is a unique celebration of Marty’s long and illustrious career. Discs One and Two are devoted to all of his early A and B sides including all the hits. Disc Three unveils a hitherto unissued Radio Luxembourg performance from 1959 while Disc Four boasts a whole CD of previously unheard demo recordings handpicked from Marty’s own archive.
Beautifully presented with remastered sound, detailed sleeve-notes and a booklet awash with images from across the years, this set perfectly commemorates the musical legacy of one of Britain’s most enduring talents who was awarded an MBE for his achievements.
Warren Smith has been revered for decades as one of the Kings of Memphis Rockabilly for the scintillating records he made for Sam Phillips' legendary Sun imprint. "So Long I'm Gone" presents the A and B of every single that Warren released between 1956 and 1962 - along with all the non-single tracks from his first album, plus some top quality 1950s cuts that inexplicably failed to get a release when they were originally recorded.
Sadly Warren's personal life was chaotic to say the least - he made some bad choices that impacted on his health and eventually landed him in prison for a spell.
He died in 1980 whilst on the verge of a comeback, before he had a chance to fully capitalise on the rockabilly revival.
Although he's been gone a long time now, appreciation for the great records that Warren made remains at a high level - rightly so as he cut some of the best recordings of the era.
Dion’s two 1963 original Columbia albums are coupled together to make their debut on CD.
Having parted company with the Belmonts in 1960, Dion DiMucci enjoyed a string of solo hits on Laurie Records, including the million-selling Runaround Sue, and two Top 20 albums before signing to Columbia Records in late ’62. By now a major star and with an uncompromising take on his own style – “I don’t sing white, I don’t sing black, I sing Bronx”, Dion’s arrival at the label heralded a significant sea change; A&R director Mitch Miller’s dislike of rock’n’roll was no secret while Dion himself was eager to break away from the “teen idol” tag.
His first Columbia single, a bluesy cover of Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller’s Ruby Baby, peaked at US #2 and spawned the first of two LPs in 1963.
Released in March ’63, “Ruby Baby” became his third Top 20 album. By contrast its follow-up, Donna The Prima Donna, fared less well – yet was more allied to Dion’s tastes.
Capitalising on the recent doo wop revival, alongside the self-penned title hit (US #6), the album included two Cleftones cover songs, Goffin & King’s overlooked This Little Girl (US #21) and a cover of Be Careful Of Stones That You Throw (US #31) which Dion had heard as a youngster by way of Hank Williams.

Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker mark 40 years of Stray Cats' Rockabilly with Cat Class and Cat Style with their new album studio album - simply titled 40. "Don't Stop... ROCK!" is the very best of The Big Six - a 25 track CD release which delivers 80 minutes of fantastic rockin' music. The Big Six is an all-star Rock 'n' Roll group conceived by Ricky Lee Brawn comprising musicians who had become well-known in other bands. Ricky and Anders Janes were both in The Stargazers in the early 1980s, Mike Sanchez was the front-man of the Big Town Playboys, Pat Reyford was the front-man of Sugar Ray Ford and the Hotshots and Al Nicholls and Nick Lunt were highly respected saxophone players on the rock 'n' roll, rhythm & blues and swing scenes. They released three albums between 1995 and 1999 - "Ready To Rock", "We The Boys Will Rock Ya" and "Get Off It and Rock It", which are all long deleted and difficult to find - so this collection is a welcome release which makes their finest moments available again.
Texas-born Moon Mullican started out singing and playing Western Swing and finished his career singing and playing unadulterated Honky Tonk Country.
In between he recorded everything from Hillbilly to highly convincing R&B and Rock 'n' Roll, always making room for the kind of music that kept dance floors full throughout the American south. He was known as the "King of the Hillbilly Piano Players" but in a career that spanned thirty years and four decades, there really were not too many types of music that Moon Mullican couldn't and didn't play with style and swagger.
"I Done It" is a 26 track collection which focuses entirely on Moon Mullican's uptempo recordings dating from 1949 to 1958.
All of his popular fast tunes are present, from his big hit "I'll Sail My Ship Alone" to his original version of "Jambalaya" to the classic Rock 'n' Roll tracks he made with Boyd Bennett and his Rockets as accompanists, including the original of the peerless "Seven Nights To Rock", along with "Rock 'n' Roll Mr. Bullfrog", "Honolulu Rock-A Roll-A" and "I'm Mad With You".

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion's new release "The Sparky Sessions" is a complete album of duets with Mark ‘Sparky’ Phillips, frontman of psychobilly band Demented Are Go. It comprises mostly of brand new songs, although also features their four previous collaborations including the YouTube multi-million hits "Jackson" and "My Love For Evermore". The Hillbilly Moon Explosion is a modern rock’n’roll band with six albums under their belt. They tour the world with their authentic take on the roots of the wide genre of rock. The line-up comprises of two Englishmen abroad – Oliver Baroni (double bass & vocals) and Duncan James (guitar), French drummer Sylvain Pettitte, and their captivating Italian/Swiss chanteuse, Emanuela Hutter.
Building on their live gigs, in recent years they’ve become an online and vinyl phenomenon, with tens of millions of Youtube hits – in particular on their distinctive duets with Sparky.
Long before his hugely successful career as a Country artist with a run of forty hits on the US Country charts, Billy 'Crash' Craddock from North Carolina was a teenage Rockabilly and Rock 'n' Roll star. Between 1957 and 1961 he cut around a dozen great 45s for a variety of labels, all of which have long since become sought-after collectors' rarities. Several of these were US regional hits, and some were covered internationally, for example Adam Faith recorded "Ah Poor Little Baby" and Johnny Kidd covered "I Want That" in the UK. In an unlikely turn of events he became a massive star in Australia during 1960-61, registering two No.1 records - "Boom Boom Baby" and "One Last Kiss", along with another half-dozen Aussie hits. "Boom Boom Billy" is a 29 track collection which anthologizes Crash's early Rock 'n' Roll career from 1957 to 1961. It features all of his Australian hits, a couple of which were never released in the USA, along with a handful of other collectors' rarities which have never previously appeared on CD.
Rock 'n' Roll vocal group Danny & The Juniors from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are often unfairly labelled one hit wonders, but the 32 track collection "Back At The Hop" shows that they clearly were not. They actually scored a total of nine Hot 100 chart entries between 1957 and 1962. "At The Hop" was the first US No.1 single of 1958 and stayed on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks. It also reached No.1 on the R&B charts, No.3 in the UK, and was a hit pretty much everywhere in the world. Other hits include the equally anthemic "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay" which was a top 20 hit in 1958, "Dottie" which reached the top 40 the same year, and "Twistin' USA" which broke into the top 30 in 1960. "Back At The Hop" includes all of their US chart hits and several rarer tracks which are also superb examples of their affinity with the doowop sound.

Best known as bass player of the Stray Cats, Lee Rocker's latest release tops this month's chart. "The Low Road" is a superb CD and DVD double disc set which see's Lee and his band perform a storming set of songs, cherry picked by Lee, which take you through his 40 year career. There are great versions of the hit songs from his early days with the Stray Cats, from his time playing alongside Carl Perkins and Scotty Moore, through to highlights from his career as a solo artist. All these tracks are reworked by Lee and his fantastic band, featuring Hot Rod Lincoln guitar ace Buzz Campbell. There is a limited edition coloured vinyl release for collectors too.
When the first Rockabilly Revival of the 1970s hit Europe, the exciting North Texas sound of Sid King and the Five Strings led the charge and kept the dance floors busy with sure shots like "Sag Drag and Fall", "Purr Kitty Purr" and "Blue Suede Shoes". Over 40 years later, those great 1950s singles are still keeping the dance floors busy everywhere that great rockabilly is played. They’re all featured on "Sag Drag and Fall", sounding just as fresh as the day they were recorded. The A and B of every single that Sid and the Strings released between 1954 and 1961 can be found on this disc, along with some equally strong tracks that inexplicably failed to make the cut when they were recorded in the 1950s.
"Heel Grinder" is an unrelenting full throttle rock 'n' roll attack from scorching New York based 4-piece the Screaming Rebel Angel. They rip up some Rockabilly raunch and deliver it with a Punkabilly sneer - Incendiary stuff!
Other notable new releases come from UK rockabilly scene favourites Jack Rabbit Slim with a killer live album, Minneapolis-based blood harmony brother duo The Cactus Blossoms returning with a brand new album of all original songs, Rockabilly Filly Rosie Flores delivering her first Blues themed album, and Texas Country legend Dale Watson marking his relocation to Tennessee with Call Me Lucky, and album recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis.
